12/1/11 Psalm 10
Scripture: Psalm 10:3-6;10-12;17&18 He boasts of the craving of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the Lord. In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thought there is no room for God. His ways are always prosperous; he is haughty and your laws are far from him; he sneers at all his enemies. He says to himself, "nothing will shake me; I'll always be happy and never have trouble. His victims are crushed, they collapse; they fall under his strength. He says to himself, "God has forgotten; he covers his face and never sees." Arise, Lord! Lift up your hand, O God Do not forget the helpless. You hear, O lord, the desire of the afflicted. you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, defending the fatherless and the oppressed, in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more.
Observation: This passage is about those people that boasts in what they have, such as riches, strength, smarts or any other way that we might be able to boast to others that we have power over the others in a culture. This person has all thoughts in his head and there is no room for God to come into his life. He believes that nothing will bring him down and instead brings down his victims and when the victims come down they are crushed. He tells his victims that God has forgotten you. But we know that God does not forget the helpless and we ask God to helps us encourage each other so that we together can shake that man so that he will not terrify again.
Application: I feel that this is the passage that most people that are in very high places need to look at. Because although they might not see it, but they could be boasting to someone. This is the start of another song I will boast. You can find the whole song on you tube but I will post the first verse and chorus. "Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, or the strong boast in his strength, or the rich one boast in his riches but let the humble come and give thanks. To the one who made us the one who saved us." Chorus: "I will boast in the Lord my God, I will boast in the one whose worthy, I will boast in the Lord my God, I will boast in the one whose worthy, I will boast in the Lord my God, I will boast in the one whose worthy, I will boast in the Lord my God, I will boast in the one whose worthy. whose worthy." Like I said you can find it on YouTube. So I know what you are saying, "So what is your point, Melissa?" My point is that we need to Boast but in CHRIST ALONE... For it is CHRIST that made us and saved us from sin, he has been there with us for our entire lives. Even when we have sinned in the past or if we sin in the future because sin is everywhere. You see it, everywhere you turn, from TV to Magazine Ads, to the "adult" store to even the prostitute's on the street. Sin is everywhere in our lives and to boast about things other than God make it as bad as sinning. Because you believe that whatever you are boasting about, if it is not Christ will not let you down. The truth is, eventually everything will let you down expect Christ. Think about it... You Beauty is only skin deep, your muscles will eventually go flat and then to fat, your wisdom will fail you, your smarts will get you so far, but there will be someone else who is smarter then you, and well the riches--yes when you make bad investments you too will run out of money. When you actually sit down and think about it, your only 1 miscue from the end of the unemployment line and it is worse when you live in an "At will" State like Nebraska is... But I am not a Lawyer or represent Legal Council. (I find this kind of funny that I am writing a blog about this tonight, when it was announced today that Warren Buffet the second or third richest man in America, is buying the Omaha World-Herald. It make me wonder how much money he is going to lose because the paper has not been very profitable since probably the mid 90's, thanks to this lovely thing we call the Internet.) God is always there to forgive our sins, especially when we have done so for a very very long time, Like in the current book series that I am reading called Big Sky Dreams by Lori Wick, wonderful series I cant wait to read more of her books. The book that I am reading is called Sabrina. Its about a prostitute that turns into a christian women. But I digress and I think after all that I have talked (and it feels like I wrote a book) you get my point, if you have not fallen asleep already!! LOL!!
Prayer: Dear Lord, Thank you for always being there for me, for when I have sinned in the past or when I will sin against you in the future. I know that you are someone that I can always count on, to be my father, my savior, my hero and my friend. I will always boast in you, for YOU are worthy to be boasted in. Amen.
